Public Access

In the past members of the public were required to engage the services of a solicitor before instructing a barrister. The Public Access Rules provide that members of the public are now able to instruct barristers directly. One of the benefits of the Public Access Scheme is that access to justice is now more cost effective. This is because you will not need to pay to instruct a solicitor in order to have access to the services that a barrister can provide for you. Further, under the Public Access Scheme, you will carry out much of the routine work yourself, rather than paying a solicitor to do this for you.

I am a barrister accredited to undertake public access work. I am also a member of Chambers at Walnut House in Exeter. My work is regulated by The Bar Standards Board and The Bar Council of England and Wales.

I can undertake the following civil law work for you:

a) legal writing – advising in writing, drafting legal documents, drafting letters etc.;

b) conferences – advising in a conference which will usually take place in my Chambers;

c) mediations – representation, advice and negotiating on your behalf at mediations;

d) court work –representation and advocacy at interim hearings and/or trials.

My clerks will usually be able to provide you with a fixed fee for the work that I can undertake for you. If it is not possible to provide you with a fixed fee, because of the nature of the work, then you will be provided costs information and a costs ceiling with be agreed in advance.

If you would like to instruct me, or you require further information, please complete the email form on this website or telephone my clerks on 01392 279751.
